An Ounce of Mother

As a father, I have a deep appreciation for the incredible role mothers play in the lives of their children. While I have never been a mother myself, I have had the privilege of witnessing the transformative power of motherhood in the lives of the women around me. From my own wife, Jackie, to the countless other mothers in our church and community, I have seen firsthand the profound impact that an “ounce of mother” can have.

Motherhood is no easy task, and today’s moms face a multitude of challenges, from work-life balance to financial pressures and mental health concerns. However, I believe that with the right support, vision, and connection to the supernatural power of God, mothers can rise up and meet these challenges head-on, empowered to nurture and raise the next generation.

Moms Need Vision for Their Children

One of the most important things that moms need is a clear vision for their children’s lives. Like the biblical figure Hannah, who dedicated her son Samuel to the Lord, we must have the courage to see our children as God sees them – with a unique purpose and plan. This vision must be rooted in prayer, not in our own limited human understanding. When we pray down this vision from God, rather than trying to force our children into a mold of our own design, we open the door for the supernatural to work in their lives.

Moms Need Help from Those Who Have Been There

Motherhood is not a journey to be walked alone. Moms need the support and wisdom of those who have been there before. Whether it’s a grandmother, a seasoned mother in the church, or a trusted mentor, having access to the experience and insight of others can make all the difference. Younger moms should not be afraid to ask for help, and more mature moms should be proactive in reaching out to those who are struggling, offering a listening ear and practical assistance.

Moms Need God’s Supernatural Power

As capable as moms are, there are times when the demands of motherhood can feel overwhelming. This is where the supernatural power of God becomes essential. When we invite God into the midst of our daily lives and struggles, He is able to do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). Whether it’s finding the strength to get through a difficult day or receiving unexpected help from a friend or neighbor, tapping into God’s power can make all the difference.

Moms Need God’s Grace

Finally, moms need to know that God’s grace is sufficient for them, even in their weaknesses. Like the apostle Paul, we may plead with God to take away our struggles, but sometimes He chooses to leave them in place, knowing that His power is made perfect in our weakness. When we embrace this grace and stop striving for perfection, we open ourselves up to the transformative work of Christ in our lives and the lives of our children.

To all the moms out there, know that you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone. With the right support, vision, and connection to the power of God, you have the ability to rise up and meet the challenges of motherhood, shaping the next generation with your unique and irreplaceable influence. May God bless you and empower you in this sacred calling.
